Cactus is a thorny plant that can live for a long time without water. Cactus is commonly found in dry areas such as deserts. It has long roots to look for water and widen water absorption in the soil. Cactus stores water in the space in its stem.
Evaporation of water through the leaves can be reduced because the leaves on the cactus change into thorns. Several types of cactus are found in the tropics and subtropics. However, its natural habitat is a hot region such as a desert. The main characteristics of the cactus plant are as follows:
- Thorns as a form of leaf
- The stem is waxed and composed of spongy tissue
- Has long roots
- Stomata only open at night
Cactus has many benefits including as an ornamental plant, and also for consumption as an additional nutrient. Some types of cactus are believed to facilitate digestion, lose weight and risk of cancer, and help control blood sugar.
The Latin plural of cactus is Cacti, and some writers use it in English. The English plural is Cactus, actually. But, dictionaries list both, and neither is good or bad.
The distinctive shape of the cactus tree makes it interesting to draw. Therefore I drew lots of cacti that can be colored by everyone at all skill levels.
